Introduction to Fly Control

High concentrations of flies cause both physical annoyances to humans and livestock, as well as posing a significant health concern and economic impact.

What Are Fly Parasites?

Fly Parasites are very tiny wasps (size of a fruit fly) that are naturally occurring in nature, mainly nocturnal, and do not pose any harmful influence on humans, livestock or pets.

Why Are Fly Parasites so Effective?

Fly Parasites (compared to chemical sprays) do not have any adverse influences on humans or the environment and the key is that they target the developing flies at the pupal stage.

Flies That Are Targeted

The majority of flies in and around Canadian farms can be controlled using a Fly Parasites program which targets manure, compost and other similar material.

All IPM programs are comprised of three components and the most effective Fly Control is attained if all the components are utilized.

For horse stables, depending on the number of animals, it is recommended that scheduled releases of Fly Parasites are on a two week or four week interval.
